Remembering Dolly Parton: A Legacy of Faith, Music and Giving

Dolly Parton leaves behind a legacy unlike any other. Across more than six decades, she became one of the most celebrated entertainers in the world, but her impact reached far beyond music and the screen.

A gifted singer, songwriter, actress, author and entrepreneur, Dolly built a career defined by extraordinary talent, determination and an unmistakable ability to bring joy to others. From her beginnings in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to her rise as a global icon, she never lost sight of the values that shaped her.

Among those values was her faith.

Dolly spoke openly throughout her life about her belief in God and the role her faith played in her journey. Raised in a Christian family, she grew up singing gospel music and continued to incorporate faith into her music and her life throughout her career. Her faith remained an important part of who she was and how she viewed the gifts she had been given.

Dolly also became known for her generosity and kindness. She used her success to help others, particularly children and families, and consistently found ways to give back to the communities around her. Her charitable work became an important part of the legacy she leaves behind.

Yet perhaps what made Dolly so beloved was that her extraordinary success never overshadowed the person behind it. She remained known for her warmth, humor, generosity and genuine kindness.

Great American Media CEO Bill Abbott had the privilege of meeting Dolly Parton twice. He shared the following tribute:

“I had the enormous privilege of meeting Dolly Parton twice. The first was with my family in 2010 while working on a special celebrating the 25th anniversary of Dollywood, where she was honored by Kenny Rogers, Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney. The second was in 2019 while working on a Christmas movie starring now Great American Media star Danica McKellar. Few people I have ever met possessed Dolly’s grace, class, and genuine elegance. Behind her generational talent and indomitable spirit was an extraordinarily pure and generous heart.

Dolly was a bright star in this world, not just because she brought joy to millions through her talent, but because of her faith, kindness, and love that she carried with her every minute of every day. Her generosity, particularly toward children and those who needed a helping hand, will remain part of her legacy forevermore.

Dolly used the extraordinary gifts God gave her remarkably well to entertain, to encourage, and to give back. There can be no greater measure of a life well lived.

I am grateful that our paths briefly crossed, and even more grateful for everything she gave to this world.

Godspeed, Dolly. You were truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed.”

Dolly Parton’s life was a remarkable example of extraordinary talent paired with faith, perseverance and a generous heart.

Her music will continue to be heard, her films will continue to be enjoyed, and her kindness will continue to be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.
