Why We Chose This: When Hope Calls

A Message from Bill Abbott, President & CEO:

At Great American Media, we believe in stories that uplift, connect, and reflect the values of faith, family, and community. Since we founded the company in 2021, one of the projects we were most excited about was the opportunity to continue When Hope Calls, a show that hadn’t been renewed by its previous network, not due to performance, but for reasons that are not worth revisiting here.

Our passion for bringing When Hope Calls back wasn’t just about business, although any programmer worth their salt would understand the value of a franchise like this.  For us, the decision was easy because it was perfectly aligned with our mission and vision.

First, When Hope Calls is not just entertainment, but it also stands for the quality storytelling we strive to create.  It is rooted in beloved intellectual property (When Calls the Heart and the books that inspired it) and built on a world millions already know and love. Season 1 in 2019 laid a strong foundation, proving that there's real demand for storytelling that upholds faith and values without compromising on quality.  The current season builds on this is a significant way.

We also recognized the immense loyalty of When Hope Calls fans.  The “Hearties” are some of the most passionate and committed viewers in all of television. When Hope Calls continues that legacy, while also standing on its own as a fresh chapter that welcomes new viewers. Just as important, behind great stories are great storytellers, and often the most important people in the equation.  Alfonso Moreno is our MVP, and knowing he would be the showrunner made the decision even easier. Great showrunners are rare, and Alfonso brings heart, professionalism, and a deep love for this series that comes through in every scene.

We often describe When Hope Calls as Little House on the Prairie for a new generation—emotionally rich, family-friendly, and the kind of show people feel good about watching together. That’s a rare thing in the current environment.

It’s also worth acknowledging the confusion around Season 2. Due to a change in distribution, many fans weren’t aware the second season even existed, and even those who knew often struggled to find it, with search results pointing them to the wrong platform or season. In that context, the show’s performance has been even more impressive. We’d love nothing more than to bring Brookfield back for a third season (or is it still Season 2?) in 2026.

We hope viewers have enjoyed the journey,  and we look forward to continuing our mission to produce content you love rooted in faith and values we hold dear.
