Oklahoma's Ford Burget will be helping America begin it's 250th Birthday Celebration on Great American Family!
Kicking off the celebration on July 4 at 6:00 a.m. ET is 11-year-old Ford Burget of Oklahoma, whose inspiring National Anthem performance captured the hearts of millions earlier this year. After experiencing a brief sound malfunction during an Oklahoma Sooners softball game, Ford was encouraged by players, coaches, and thousands of fans who joined together to sing until he found his place again. The unforgettable moment became a powerful reminder of the unity and hope the National Anthem can inspire.
We are so inspired by Ford that we decided to chat with him for a Q&A, read below!
Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself? (Age, where you're from, favorite hobbies, etc.)
A: Age 11, from Norman, Oklahoma. Favorite hobbies: Singing, playing sports, acting, and playing with siblings
Q: When did you first discover that you loved to sing?
A: First time I remember singing was around 2 years old in a store. I have loved music my entire life.
Q: What does singing the National Anthem mean to you?
A: It means how we should be thankful to live in a country that was brave enough to fight for our freedom. It shows respect to all who have given their lives so we can live in the land of the free.
Q: What is your favorite family tradition on the Fourth of July?
A: We go to our Uncle's lake for a family reunion! We have over 90 people in our family. So I love seeing all my cousins, playing, and watching fireworks together.
Q: Do you have a favorite line in the National Anthem?
A: Land of the free and the home of the brave!
Q: Why do you think it's important to honor the American flag and those who have served our country?
A: Just looking at the flag, it's a symbol of all who have sacrificed their lives for us, which reminds me of how Christ sacrificed his life for us.
Q: If someone your age wanted to start singing, what advice would you give them?
A: If you love to sing, do it! If you ever mess up or feel like you didn't do your best, keep going and never give up on what you love.
Q: Is there anything you'd like to say to everyone who watched your performance?
A: We prayed before I sang that God would be glorified, so I hope the performance has allowed others to see Christ.
